7th and 8th Grade Summer Reading Assignments

BMX Assembly

The PTO was very generous and funded an amazing whole school BMX assembly the week before school ended. K-Rob (Kevin Robinson) is a Guinness World Record Holder and an X Games Gold Medalist that spreads awareness of important key topics facing our students every day such as; bullying and being a positive role model. K-Rob also provides character education and encourages students and teachers to continue to strive for excellence. While delivering his important message about teamwork, respect, inspiration, confidence, and kindness, K-Rob showed off some of his bike tricks. He was a big hit! A big thank you to the PTO for providing this educational and engaging opportunity.

Governor's Summer Reading Challenge

Wednesday, June 20, 2017

Dear SCS Families,

School has sadly come to an end. I want to thank you for all the support that you have provided during the 2016-2017 school year. The school year was a great success due to the collaborative efforts of the students, families, and the staff!

Now that summer has officially begun, I am formally inviting each and every student to participate in the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge! Each student will be given a hard copy of a reading log. If this log is misplaced over the summer, you may print another one by going to this site http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/lib/sde/pdf/ctread/SR2017_journal.pdfI encourage all students to read, read, read over the summer and to log their books in their reading log. Reading logs will be due to the main office by Friday, September 8, 2017. All students that hand in a completed reading log will be rewarded at the start of the 2017-2018 school year. The student that reads the most for their grade level will be given a very special reading award!

We hope that all SCS students will seriously accept this challenge, for reading is the most important skill there is. Research shows that reading is crucial to a child’s brain development and intellectual stimulation. Reading is also FUN! We can’t wait to celebrate everyone’s hard work when we return from summer break.

Have a nice summer everyone!

Sincerely,
Shari Ternowchek
